Cape Fear Fair equals loads of fun on a budget

The Cape Fear Fair kicked off this weekend at the Fayetteville Motor Speedway to big crowds. More than 3,000 people visited on Saturday when the fair hosted Demolition Derby. The fair continues through the week.

Lake Wheeler back open for swimming

Wake County officials reopened the recreational swimming areas at Lake Wheeler Beach. Health officials closed the lake for the fifth time this summer just last Friday due to high levels of bacteria.

Triple shooting kills three in Sunset Harbor

Three people were shot Saturday night, off Sunset Harbor Road, authorities said around 9:00 p.m. they arrived on scene to find three people with gunshot wounds. Friends said Brandon Warr shot his estranged wife, her friend and then himself.

ECU fans pack newly expanded stadium

Thousands of fans packed the newly expanded Dowdy-Ficklen stadium on Sunday as the ECU Pirates took on Tulsa's Golden Hurricane. Seven-thousand new seats were added to the stadium. Which means the stadium can now seat 50,000 people.

Animal shelter reopening after virus shuts them down

The Catawba County Animal Shelter plans to reopen their temporary site on Tuesday after a virus forced officials to shut down the facility on August 25. Lab results haven't identified what kind of respiratory virus infected the animals.
